This wonderful Garlic Butter Shrimp with Paprika dish is inspired by a recipe we found on the great Dishing Out Health website. It’s a beautiful looking dish full of vibrant colors which just draw you in. The good news is, it tastes just as good as it looks. Perhaps even better! We’ve made a couple of tweaks to the dish and it’s a taste sensation. We can’t wait for you all to try it and let us know in the comments what you think!

The hero of the Garlic Butter Shrimp with Paprika dish are the spices and aromatics, they are what brings all the flavor together

Naturally when you’ve got a spice in the recipe name, it’s going to be a prominent flavor. That couldn’t be truer for this wonderful recipe. Paprika sits front and center on the palate for this recipe right where it should be. The Paprika gives a wonderful smoky, sweet flavor to the dish which pairs perfectly with the perfectly cooked Shrimp

Along with a boatload of Garlic and a little bit of Chili for some kick, you really get a massive amount of flavor out of this recipe. What’s great about it too is it doesn’t take long to make. Only about 20 minutes of cooking time and you’re done. It’s quite amazing how much flavor can be extracted from this dish in just 20 minutes of cooking. The flavor is what you’d expect out of a sauce that has had hours to reduce and build flavor

We cook the Shrimp separately before the sauce is made. That doesn’t mean the Shrimp doesn’t get a punch of flavor though!

The sauce takes a while to reduce, so if we were to cook the Shrimp in the sauce they’d get overcooked and unpleasant to eat. Therefore, the first step of this recipe is to cook the Shrimp then set them aside. That does not mean that the Shrimp doesn’t get its own beautiful flavors when they’re cooked however!

Season the Shrimp well with Salt and place them into a hot frying pan with a generous amount of melted Butter. We’ve opted for 2 tbsp., but you may want to add even more depending on how much Shrimp you’re working with

Garlic Butter Shrimp with Paprika close up
The flavors of this amazing dish are so rich and pronounced. It’s so packed full of flavor you will love it!

Cooking the Shrimp in the Butter at a high temperature will not only give them a beautiful charred, golden-brown color – but the Shrimp will absorb all that beautiful Butter flavor

If you like you can get even fancier and add some additional Garlic to the Butter to get a Garlic Butter-infused Shrimp flavor. Let the Garlic Swim in the Butter for about a minute as it is melting, so by the time the Shrimp hits the pan, you’ve got a wonderfully flavored Garlic Butter to cook them in

We also add Garlic to the Sauce, so this recipe gives you two doses of Garlic. Not that we’re complaining at all! If you are a little Garlic adverse, then we’d recommend skipping adding the Garlic to the Shrimp and simply add it to the Sauce

If, however, you love Garlic like us, add it at both steps for a wonderful, garlicky flavor throughout the dish!

Make sure to properly peel and devein the Shrimp before you begin

This is a very important step, so make sure you take the time to prepare those Shrimp correctly before cooking them. This dish requires the Shrimp to be completely peeled. You can keep the tails on for a nice visual appeal or discard them. We discarded them so it is easier to shovel in more food we’re eating!

We’ve published a simple video on our YouTube Channel on how to easily peel and devein Shrimp. So, if you are using whole Shrimp for this recipe we recommend you check out that video to get the specifics on how to properly prepare the Shrimp

Another way is to simply buy the Shrimp already peeled and deveined from the grocery store. This will save you a lot of time in preparation, so we recommend it. As always when purchasing Seafood, just ensure you’re getting Fresh seafood. You can tell if it is fresh by smelling it. If the Shrimp has an overly Fishy smell it’s likely not fresh

The sauce in this dish is so delicious. It’s a rich sauce that is built from a combination of Chicken Broth, Tomato Paste, Vegetables, and Heavy Cream. The consistency of the sauce is such that you want to eat it alongside some rice or bread to soak all those wonderful flavors up

Don’t sleep on the Chicken Broth either, good quality homemade Broth will change this dish from a good dish into a great dish. Check out our Homemade Broths and Stocks section here and make your own to get the most out of this recipe

Garlic Butter Shrimp with Paprika Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 200ml Heavy Cream
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth (recipe here)
  • 1 cup Cherry Tomatoes, quartered
  • 1 Red Bell Pepper, diced
  • ½ Onion, diced
  • 6 Garlic Cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp. Chives, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp. Smoked Paprika
  • 1 tsp. Red Chili Flakes
  • 1 Lemon
  • 3 tbsp. Tomato Paste
  • 1 tbsp. Olive Oil
  • 2 tbsp. Butter
  • Salt

Instructions

  1. Melt the Butter into a large frying pan over high heat along with 2 Garlic Cloves which have been finely chopped. Once the Butter has melted, add the Shrimp. Season generously with Salt and cook for 2 minutes on each side until golden-brown and cooked through, then set aside
  2. Reduce the heat to medium and add the Olive Oil. Once hot, add the Onion and cook for 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the Garlic, Tomato Paste, and Paprika, and cook for a further 1 minute, then add the Bell Peppers and Cherry Tomatoes and cook for 1 more minute
  3. Add the Chicken Broth and bring the liquid to a boil. Drop the heat down to medium / low and pour in the Heavy Cream. Simmer for about 10 minutes until the sauce thickens and reduces. As the sauce reduces it will turn a darker red/orange color

Tomato Cream Sauce cooking down
Once you add the Cream the sauce will turn a light color. Cook it down until it reduces and turns a beautiful orange/red color
  1. Add the Chili Flakes, Chives, and Shrimp. Mix everything through to re-heat the Shrimp and then turn off the heat. Add the juice of ½ a Lemon just before serving and mix through
  2. Serve the Garlic Butter Shrimp with Paprika dish family style in the pot, along with some Lemon slices

Recipe Notes

As with all cooking, be sure to season constantly as you are adding vegetables to the dish. Always check the seasoning as you are cooking to ensure it is not over / under seasoned
