Air Fried Potato Skin Chips
A fun and deliciously simple recipe that is a creative way to utilize those Potato Skins which are so often discarded when preparing a meal. In this recipe we show you how to make Air Fried Potato Skin Chips that are packed full of flavor and have a deliciously crispy texture. The dish comes together so easily, and is a great appetizer, or simply to serve as a side when you’re enjoying your favorite beverage with friends
How to make Air Fried Potato Skin Chips
This is such an easy recipe to make and is as simple as the name of the dish suggests. All you need to do is peel those potato skins, throw them in the air fryer, and cook until crispy. Ok, there’s maybe a little more to it than that, but not a whole lot!
The first step is choosing your Potato. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with any kind of Potato here. As we’re making this dish by using the Potato Skins which are peeled away from the Potato, chances are you would otherwise have thrown them out. So, we recommend making your favorite Potato dish and buying the right Potatoes for that. This dish can simply be made using Potato Skins for your favorite dish

Some common Potatoes that you can use are Russet or Yukon Gold. These work with a variety of delicious Potato dishes from crispy homemade Fries to Mashed Potatoes. The Air Fried Potato Skin Chips can be made easily while you prepare the peeled Potatoes for whatever dish you choose
Give the Potatoes a good wash before peeling
This should go without saying, however this is especially true if you are using Potatoes that still have a lot of dirt on them when you pick them up from the store. You want to ensure those Potatoes are completely clean before you peel them
I recommend first giving the Potatoes a good rinse in the sink under cold water and even soaking them in a bowl or saucepan with water before peeling. To remove any dirt that’s really stuck to the Potato you can use a clean kitchen scourer or brush. Try to avoid brushing too aggressively as you may damage the skin
Peel the Potatoes
I like to use a classic hand peeler when peeling Potatoes. For this recipe we’re trying to create long strands of Potato Skins for our ‘chips’. So, the best method is to hold the Potato in your non-preferred hand and then simply peel the Potato skins from top to bottom in one motion. Continue to do this as you rotate the Potato to achieve as many long strands of peeled Potato Skins as possible
You’ll likely be left with some leftover Potato Skin on the top and bottom of the Potato. Just peel them away and discard these pieces, as they won’t end up being the right shape for making Chips
I recommend trying to peel the Potatoes slightly deeper than you typically would if you are discarding the skin. This will yield a peeled Potato Skin that has a nice inner layer of Potato on it, which will just translate to more flavor and body in the final result

One Potato will be more than enough for 2 people
You’ll be surprised at the yield you get out of a Potato when preparing it this way. In fact, we had 3 of us enjoying this dish and 1 Potato was more than enough for us. So, plan accordingly, and also consider the size of your Air Fryer
You don’t want to completely overload the Air Fryer, so 1 – 2 Potatoes would be the maximum amount I would recommend cooking at once. Once you have prepared the Potatoes you can simply throw them straight into the Air Fryer to begin cooking. This is meant to be a no-fuss meal, so sure, the Potatoes may be a little wet but they’re going to still dry out and crisp up in the Air Fryer relatively easily
Cooking the Potato Chips in the Air Fryer
Each Air Fryer is different, so the cooking times may vary based on the size and brand of Air Fryer you’re using. Also, how many Potatoes are in there. All I suggest when cooking the Potatoes is to crank your Air Fryer to its highest temperature
For us, we cooked the Potato Skins at 390F / 200C for about 8 minutes, shaking them around every few minutes to keep the Potato Skins moving. Check on the Potatoes every 2 minutes or so (as you’re shaking them around) to monitor for doneness
The Potato Skin Chips will be completely cooked once they have turned a brilliant dark brown roasted color on the outside. The inside of the skins will have some lighters browned parts as well as some sections that are still slightly white
This is the optimal doneness for our Air Fried Potato Skin Chips. You don’t want to overcook them as they’ll become bitter and unpleasant to eat. They’ll be lovely and crispy, and still retain that lovely roasted Potato flavor that you expect

Serving
Keep the serving super-simple. Just pour them straight out of the Air Fryer into a bowl and then give them a very generous seasoning of Salt. These are Potatoes after all, so adding Salt is going to dramatically improve their flavor
They are best enjoyed immediately for optimal flavor and crispiness. Serve the dish alongside your favorite beverage to soak up all that salty goodness and enjoy these delicious Air Fried Potato Skin Chips
