The inspiration behind this recipe
There are so many wonderful baking recipes to draw inspiration from these days. For these Sweet M&M Cookies, we followed a fantastic recipe from Celebrating Sweets a fantastic food blog that specializes in all things sweet. The first thing that stood out to us about this recipe what their striking visual appeal. Likely this was the same reason that drew you to this recipe. They just look amazing!
We didn’t really make a lot of tweaks to the recipe from the original. I guess the recipe was so simple and easy to follow that there really is no need. The only change we made is that we used regular sized M&Ms, not minis. It doesn’t really matter which ones you choose to use. I think the regular ones were all that was available at the store, so that decision was easy for us to make!
How to make delicious Sweet M&M Cookies
I love a good baking recipe that is easy, and this one is exactly that! Minimal steps are involved and they’re all very straight forward. At the end of the day, who wants to fuss about too much in the kitchen when it comes to Cookies. Like most folks, we just want delicious homemade Cookies that are easy to make and ready to enjoy in no time at all!
This Cookie recipe follows a fairly conventional baking approach. That is, mix your flour ingredients in one bowl, and your Butter in another. Once the Butter is beautiful and smooth, combine the two (preferably using a stand mixer) to form a batter. Then, add the M&Ms, give it a little bit more of a mix and then they are ready to bake
There is a step in between finalizing the batter and baking, however. You will need to form your Cookies into dough balls about 2 tbsp. each in size and refrigerate them for 30 minutes – 1 hour. The longer you refrigerate the cookies, the thicker they will be. I recommend 30 minutes for the perfect Cookie texture
Once the Cookies come out of the refrigerator, straight onto a baking tray they go where they are baked in the oven at 350F for around 10 – 12 minutes. Once the edges of the Cookies begin to set, they’re done! Pull them out of the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack before eating!
This recipe uses a combination of M&Ms and regular Chocolate Chips
What I love about this recipe is the combination of both Chocolate Chips and M&MS. The M&Ms not only give the Cookies a striking visual appeal, but they add a fantastic crunchy texture. Of course, once you bite into those M&Ms all that wonderfully gooey Chocolate pours out, and it’s delicious!
The addition of regular Chocolate Chips helps to elevate the chocolatey decadence of the Cookies. The Chocolate Chips will melt, forming a nice gooey, chocolatey inside to the Cookies. The ratio is 2:1 M&Ms to Chocolate Chip cookies. We used 1 cup of M&Ms to ½ cup of Chocolate Chips and that ratio seemed about right
You can choose to use Milk Chocolate or Dark Chocolate for the Chips. We opted for Dark Chocolate Chips, which is what I would recommend if you are making this dish at home. The Dark Chocolate gives a richer, decadent flavor to the Cookies. I honestly prefer Dark Chocolate in any shape or form, and these Cookies are no exception!
If you prefer you can solely use Chocolate Chips
Another option for this recipe is to purely use Chocolate Chips to make decadent Chocolate Chip Cookies. You can follow all the steps in the recipe outlined below, but simply replace the M&Ms with more Chocolate Chips. That means you’d add 1 ½ cups of Chocolate Chips to the dish
In fact, doing so will make some pretty darn good Chocolate Chip Cookies! You’ll get that beautiful chewy texture and wonderfully sweet Cookie that is loaded up with gooey chocolate. The inclusion of M&Ms adds a nice textural and visual appeal to the dish. However, the recipe does make a mean Chocolate Chip Cookie as well!
These Cookies will keep for a few days, but always best to enjoy as soon as possible
You can store the Sweet M&M Cookies for a few days without them spoiling. The best way to do so is to either seal them up in a Ziploc bag or place them into a sealable container. Either way, ensuring they are sealed will ensure the optimal longevity for the Cookies
You can keep the Cookies for up to 1 week and they’ll still be great to eat. We do recommend enjoying the Cookies when they are fresh. There’s nothing quite like biting into a gooey, chocolatey, freshly baked Cookie that’s still warm from the oven
