Panko Pork Rinds

While the recipe may sound a little bit strange, we guarantee you’re going to love it. This fun dish offers a unique twist on typical breadcrumb applications in cooking, and the flavors it brings to the table are truly amazing. In this recipe we show you how to make amazing tasting Panko Pork Rinds, which are essentially ground up Pork Rinds that can be used in the same way you would typically use Panko Breadcrumbs. From coating dishes for frying, to using as a simple topping or seasoning to add flavor to your cooking, Panko Pork Rinds are so versatile and tasty

How to make Panko Pork Rinds

In terms of simplicity, this may very well be the easiest recipe we have on our website. In fact, it only requires 1 step and 1 ingredient! The ingredient we’re after are Pork Rinds, and the step we use is blitzing them

All you need to do is load up your blender (preferably) with a bag full of Pork Rinds you’ve purchased from the store and blitz them until they turn into a super-fine crumb. The length of time you blitz them will slightly impact their fineness. So that step is up to you

A super-fine texture is going to achieve a beautiful, even consistency for your Panko Pork Rinds, making them perfect for coating foods for frying to ensure there are no gaps. Leaving the Rinds slightly larger will achieve a crunchier texture. Either way, they’re going to taste amazing

What kind of Pork Rinds should I use

It’s totally up to you which ones you choose. Given the flavor of the Panko Pork Rinds is going to pretty much 100% be the same as what you’re eating out of the packet, the Pork Rind itself is the most important element of this dish

So, I can’t tell you exactly which brand to use, as it really comes down to personal preference. The best advice I can give you is to simply find the Pork Rind you like the most and use that one. Hey, if this means you need to trial a bunch of Pork Rinds then so be it!

I will preface; however, they aren’t the healthiest thing to eat. They’re basically dehydrated Fried Pork Skin that’s loaded up with Salt to keep them shelf stable. So, while they may taste amazing, I highly recommend you exercise some level of restraint when eating this delicious dish

We recommend simply using the Pork Rinds you like the taste of as they’ll taste the same in the final dish

What is the best way to use Panko Pork Rinds

The options for adding this delicious ingredient to your cooking is really only up to your own cooking aspirations. They really can be used in any dish that you would typically add Breadcrumbs. A few of the most popular uses for Panko Pork Rinds are the following

Use them as a topping for Vegetables

One often overlooked, but delicious use for Breadcrumbs is adding them to Vegetables right before serving. The Breadcrumbs act as a beautiful textural component to the dish, as well as some additional seasoning and flavor

In the case of our Panko Pork Rinds, they pack a big punch of salty flavor, so I recommend using them as an alternative to finishing Salt to season your Vegetables. We tried them on two types of Roast Vegetables, some amazing Roast Fennel as well as some delicious Roast Scallions

These amazing Panko Pork Rinds are so versatile. Try topping them over some delicious Roast Vegetables for an amazing seasoning and flavor

The result for both Vegetables was amazing. The flavor is beautiful, with a Porky, Salty flavor that really brings the rich caramelized flavors of the Roast Vegetables to life. You can use them on any kind of Vegetables, but I highly recommend Roast Vegetables for the ultimate in flavor

Try using them as an option for coating / breading dishes before frying

For the ultimate in indulgence, instead of coating your food in Breadcrumbs before frying, try coating them in Pork Rinds. It’s a ridiculously indulgent dish that we wouldn’t recommend all the time, but give it a try on a few of your favorite home cooked fried food and see how it tastes

I highly recommend trying it with Schnitzels, especially Pork Schnitzel. Apply the Pork Rinds Breadcrumbs just like you would a typical breading by using the classic Flour, Egg Wash, and Breadcrumbs application before shallow frying in hot oil for a few minutes on either side

You can also mix in some regular Breadcrumbs to make a delicious Pork flavored breading. I’d recommend this technique as a starting point to see how you like the flavor and texture of the Panko Pork Rinds

They are exceptionally tasty as a Breadcrumb substitute, so try using them as a breading for some home cooked fried food

Topping over Mac and Cheese

Perhaps the ultimate flavor and texture for using Panko Pork Rinds has to be using it on Mac and Cheese. Mac and Cheese are one of our all-time favorite side dishes here at Dinnertime Somewhere, so the idea of topping it with Fried Crispy Pork (one of our other all-time favorite dishes) makes perfect sense

You can make this recipe by following our amazing Mac and Cheese recipe. In that recipe we don’t bake the Mac and Cheese, I find it’s perfectly amazing without needing to add that extra step. However, for a more traditional style Mac and Cheese, simply pour the cooked Mac and Cheese into a baking tray and coat it generously with the Panko Pork Rinds before baking it in the oven for a few minutes to get the topping golden-brown

The good news is this dish is designed to be shelf stable, so once you’ve made them you can store them in a sealable container and they’ll keep for ages. So, you can use what you want and store the rest in your pantry
