We’re huge fans of creating dishes with big, bold flavors at Dinnertime Somewhere. Loads of our dishes would qualify for this title, so for this meal plan we want to share some of our favorite dishes that are loaded with flavors. From Robust flavored proteins like Pork and Beef, to vibrant, spicy Salads and a refreshing dessert, there’s a little something for everybody in our Big Flavors Weekly Meal Plan!

We’ve got 5 amazing dishes for you to try this week, including a fun way to utilize leftover Pork that isn’t your typical Pork lunch dish for the next day (no offense to Pork Sandwiches of course!). If you’re a fan of big flavors then these recipes are definitely for you:

Peppercorn Steak and Pea Puree

Peppercorn Steak and Pea Puree

This is a fun little dish we whipped up after being inspired by a dish we saw on a Japanese YouTubers travel blog. The dish he ate was a simple piece of slices Steak over a Pea Puree. It was considered ‘western food’ in the description, which is accurate, but didn’t really give much more info on the dish other than that!

So, for our version of this dish, we looked to create two unique components of the dish, each packed full of big flavors. The first being the creamy Pea Puree which forms the sauce for the recipe. We ramped up the flavor in this Pea Puree massively by adding roast Shallots, roast Garlic, and homemade Chicken Broth to the Peas before it was blitzed up to a silky-smooth texture

For the Steak component, we used Beef Tenderloin for its overall tenderness. It’s typically not considered the most flavorful cut of meat because of how little fat it has. So, to ramp up the flavor, we created an ‘Au Poivre’ style Steak, which is a French-inspired dish which coats the Steak in a Peppercorn Crust

We pan-fried the Steak in a load of Butter, Herbs, and Garlic to add even more flavor to the dish. Once rested, you simply slice the Steak and serve it atop the Pea Puree. This is a wonderful dish to look at, and even more enjoyable to eat!

Crispy Pork Belly with Szechuan Pepper

Crispy Pork Belly with Szechuan Pepper

When it comes to big flavored proteins, few can rival the mighty Pork Belly. This wonderful cut of Pork is loaded with delicious, fatty flesh which when cooked properly is so juicy and flavorful. For our Pork Belly recipe we’ve got a foolproof technique that guarantees the crispiest skin you’ve ever eaten. The trick – it all comes down to drying out the skin. There’s not a lot of preparation needed other than salting and scoring the skin, and then leaving it, uncovered, in the refrigerator for at least 2 days. So, you’ll need to prepare this dish a few days in advance to achieve the best results

We add a ridiculously tasty, spicy Szechuan Peppercorn rub to the flesh of the Pork belly before it is roasted in the Oven. The Szechuan Peppercorns add the most amazing ‘tingly’ flavor to the dish which you must try to understand what that description means! Once cooked, slice the Pork Belly up into pieces and pair it with some sweet Hoisin Sauce and some light greens and you’ve got a delicious, hearty meal to enjoy

Peking Pork Belly Pancakes

Peking Pork Belly Pancakes

Our Pork Belly dish will likely produce leftovers, so we’ve come up with this amazing Pork Belly dish to utilize those tasty pieces of Pork, and of course, that crispy Pork skin / crackling. This dish is inspired by the famous Chinese Peking Duck Pancakes. However, instead of using Duck, we swap that out for Pork! The crispy Duck skin is replicated with the crispy Pork crackling. This gives the Pancakes a wonderful texture and deep, slightly salty flavor which pairs perfectly with the sweetness of the Pork, and the sauces

We recommend making two different types of sauces for these Pancakes. Mix and match them to see which you prefer. You can use traditional Hoisin Sauce, which is typical in a traditional Peking Duck Pancake. Alternatively, why not try making some simple Homemade Apple Sauce. The sweetness of the Apple Sauce pairs beautifully with Pork and makes for a fun and unique alternative to Hoisin Sauce. Or, try both!

Cucumber Dill Salad with Mint and Feta

Cucumber Dill Salad

Cucumber Salads are all the rave right now. Honestly, it’s been long overdue. This is such a delicious type of Salad that is widely popular all over Asia. It’s great that it’s finally seeing it’s day in the sun. What I love most about Cucumber Salads is how easy they are to make. You literally slice up some Cucumber, add a bunch of stuff, make a simple dressing and you’re done!

Our version of this popular Salad uses a classic pairing of Dill and Mint. Both herbs pack a huge amount of flavor. Fitting for our Big Flavors Weekly Meal Plan. The freshness and brightness of the Herbs are a great pairing with the light Cucumber. We finish the Salad off with some good quality, crumbly Feta Cheese. The Cheese adds a delicious salty flavor and beautiful creamy texture to the dish

This is a super-healthy Salad that can be enjoyed as it’s own meal, but we’d recommend enjoying it as a side salad (perhaps try it with the Pork Belly). Give it a try and let us know what you think of this dish!

Orange and Raspberry Poppy Seed Cake

Orange and Raspberry Poppy Seed Cake

Rounding out our Big Flavors Weekly Meal Plan is a beautiful looking and tasting Cake. The flavors in this Orange and Raspberry Poppy Seed Cake are immense. There’s simply so much going on with every bite. Sweetness, Tartness, and little bit of Saltiness are some of the flavor profiles you’ll enjoy when eating this wonderful cake

What I love about this cake is it’s very far removed from a traditional cake. Hey, I’m as big a fan of Chocolate Cake as the next person, but sometimes you want something a little different. This cake is packed full of big flavors that we’re convinced will convert even the biggest Chocolate fan you know

The cake is super moist too, which is due to the addition of Yoghurt to the Batter. This cake will last for over 1 week easily and still be amazing and moist. However, we guarantee you there’ll be no chance of the cake sticking around that long. It’ll be eaten well before that given how addictive it is!

We hope you enjoy this meal plan for the week. There should be a few recipes in here for everyone so even if you don’t cook all of them this week, we highly encourage you to give one or two of them a try. Let us know in the comments below what you think!

Happy Cooking!
