Salmon Caesar Salad

Salmon Caesar Salad

A Caesar Salad is one of those classic, staple Salads that everyone knows and enjoys. But let’s face it, they can get a bit boring after a while right? Our version of this classic Salad ramps up the flavor significantly with the inclusion of perfectly flaky Salmon. The combination of the fattiness from the Salmon mixed with the creamy sauce and salty Anchovies makes for an awesome dish. When you add those famous croutons to the dish, it becomes quite a hearty Salad and more than enough to suffice for a healthy weeknight dinner

The classic ingredients that make up a Caesar Salad

To me when I think about Caesar Salad a few classic ingredients come to mind. Crispy, leafy lettuce, Anchovies, crunchy Croutons, and a creamy dressing that binds the whole dish together. Caesar Salads are one of the simpler salads out there, which is probably why they are so common and popular. For the minimal amount of ingredients required, you can make a ridiculously tasty Salad in no time at all!

The inclusion of Salmon into a Caesar Salad is one we recommend you all try at least once. It may seem a little strange at first, but once you get a bite of that beautiful flaky, fatty Salmon you’ll understand what I mean. It pairs perfectly in a Caesar Salad, offering robust flavors that turn what is typically a side salad into the main course

This wonderful Salmon Caesar Salad follows the traditional recipe for a Caesar Salad. However, there is no Egg, and we add that beautiful, flaky Salmon

This Caesar Salad recipe is Egg free!

Typically, the dressing for a Caesar Salad contains Egg, and / or there can be sliced Egg included as an ingredient. For our recipe we’re excluding the Egg. We do so as we have an Egg allergy in the household. Also, I find that it is no big loss not having Eggs in Caesar Salads. I find they don’t really add much to the dish, and we’ve got Salmon as the protein component in the dish, so it’s not really needed

The dressing itself is a simple and easy to prepare dressing containing Yoghurt, Lemon Juice, and finely diced Garlic. Along with a little bit of Salt, the dressing tastes amazing – with a bright, creamy freshness that generously coats that leafy lettuce. No need for Egg in this dressing either. It’s easy to make, and tastes so good!

How to perfectly (and easily) cook the Salmon

We’ve developed a fool-proof method for cooking Salmon perfectly every time. Our method simply involves roasting the Salmon filets in the oven at a low temperature. This method ensures perfectly cooked, juicy and flaky Salmon every time

All you need to do is place the Salmon skin-side down on a lined sheet pan. You can also use skinless Salmon if you like, as we don’t include the skin in this recipe. Season the Salmon well with Salt and then place the sheet pan in the oven at around 225F

Roast the Salmon for about 25 minutes. The time may vary slightly based on the size of the Salmon and individual ovens (all ovens tend to cook at slightly different times we’ve found). You will know once the Salmon is completely cooked as it’ll turn a light pink color all over

Once cooked, remove the Salmon from the oven and allow it to cool. This Salmon Caesar Salad dish is served cold, or at very least at room temperature. The Salmon will likely take about an hour to cool, but you can always serve it a little warm if you’re hungry!

The Salmon will flake away perfectly, which makes for optimal plating. I tried a few photos for this recipe where I just put the whole Salmon Filet straight onto the Salad. The Salmon pieces I had were massive, so it looked a little bulky (see the photo below!) so I’d recommend flaking it with a fork or your hands before adding to the Salad

Salmon on Salad
You can place the whole roast Salmon straight on top of the Salad. If it’s a massive piece like we used it may not look ideal!

You can prepare the Salmon in advance and refrigerate it before cooking

Seafood is one of those ingredients that you really need to cook straight away. Leaving fresh Seafood in the refrigerator for a few days is not the best approach for home cooking. It’ll go off a lot quicker than other proteins, and it really does taste the best when it is fresh

So, either cook the Salmon on the same day you are wanting to enjoy this Salmon Caesar Salad recipe, or alternatively you can cook it in advance and refrigerate it. I’d suggest a maximum of 2 days in the fridge once it’s been cooked, no longer than that. It’ll start to dry out and not be as enjoyable to eat. However, you can prepare the Salmon in advance which is helpful for meal planning

Roast the delicious piece of Salmon in the oven until it’s pink and flaky. You can also refrigerate it for up to 2 days before making this dish

The pairing of Salmon and White Anchovies is a surprisingly amazing combination!

Perhaps one of the most polarizing ingredients in the cooking world are Anchovies. You either love them or hate them. There’s really no in-between. Anchovies are a classic ingredient in a Caesar Salad, and in our opinion are a must-have in the dish

We prefer using White Anchovies in Caesar Salad. Their fresh, briny taste and creamy texture are the perfect addition to a Caesar Salad. I love how those good quality White Anchovies are soaked in a delicious Olive Oil which adds even more flavor to the dish

The pairing of flaky Salmon and briny White Anchovies is awesome. While both ingredients come from the ocean, they couldn’t be more different in flavors. While Anchovies have that briny, salty flavor (due to their curing process once caught), the Salmon is fatty and luscious. The combination is amazing, and what truly sets this Salmon Caesar Salad apart from the rest

White Anchovies aren’t cheap these days, so if you are looking for a budget option you can always opt for the Red Anchovies. Red Anchovies typically come in jars and keep forever in the refrigerator. They’re great when chopped up and serve more as a seasoning for dishes than anything else. Regardless of whether you use White or Red Anchovies, we highly recommend adding them to the dish

The final components to the Salmon Caesar Salad are Anchovies, shaved Parmesan Cheese, and Croutons

Make your own Croutons for a tasty and crunchy addition to the Salad

Of course, it’s not a Caesar Salad unless it’s topped with those wonderful crunchy Croutons. We highly recommend saving any old bread you’ve got lying around and turning it into Croutons. It’s so easy to do, simply cut the Bread up into chunks, douse them with Olive Oil and Salt and oven roast until crispy!

I like to add some seasoning like Rosemary into the pan too. When roasted, the Rosemary infuses its flavor into the Croutons, and they taste amazing. You can store the homemade Croutons in a Ziploc bag and they’ll keep for months in the pantry. It’s a great way to utilize leftover bread that will more than likely get thrown out. We’ve got a recipe here on how to make amazing Croutons at home using leftover Bread
