In fact, Teriyaki Sauce is one of the easiest and most delicious sauces you can make at home! There is very little technique involved, all you need to do is add the right ingredients (and the right quantity of them) to a saucepan and heat for about 8 \u2013 10 minutes until it has slightly thickened<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ingredients used in a Teriyaki Sauce are very common in Asian cooking. Some of the ingredients like Soy Sauce, Chinese Vinegar, and Honey are very common ingredients in most homes. However, there are some Asian-specific ingredients that are a little less common but are critical in a great Teriyaki Sauce. The inclusion of Cooking Sake and Mirin are what gives a Teriyaki its distinct flavor, and are critical in this Beef Teriyaki Tataki Sauce<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your local grocery store doesn\u2019t stock all the ingredients required then you can just make a stop at an Asian grocery store, as they are guaranteed to stock all the items you need. Traditionally a Beef Tataki is served with beef that is cooked very rare. For our recipe, we\u2019re suggesting you cook the beef a little longer, but still cook it to a rare temperature \u2013 which means you pull the Steak from the heat at around 110F<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When sliced into, the Beef will have a beautiful dark crust, and a lovely red colored interior. Because the Beef is served on the rarer side, the best cut to use for a Beef Tataki is Beef Tenderloin \/ Filet. The tenderness of the Filet is second to none, and it will be buttery smooth and tender in the dish. That\u2019s totally ok for this dish, as the sweet and salty flavors in the Teriyaki Sauce are huge. However, for the Steak to stand out with it\u2019s own flavor, we recommend making a delicious Peppercorn crust<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To do so you will need a Mortar and Pestle to grind down the whole Peppercorns (about 2 tbsp. of them) into a smooth consistency. We then add Salt, Onion Powder, and Garlic Powder and mix it all through. This creates a beautifully spiced and flavorful rub which we liberally cover the Steaks with<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may seem like too much Pepper once you\u2019ve coated the Beef, but remember, this is just the outside of the Steak that is being seasoned. A good 8 oz. piece of Beef Tenderloin is going to need a lot of seasoning, and all that Beef inside the Steak isn\u2019t seasoned. Vegetable Oil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bc cup Scallions, finely chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 tbsp. Cook for 2 minutes stirring constantly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a slurry by mixing the Corn Starch and Water in a small bowl, then pour into the Saucepan and mix well to combine. Cook for a further 7 \u2013 8 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken and coat the back of a spoon. Set aside<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the Peppercorns in a Mortar and Pestle and grind until smooth then add the Salt, Onion Powder, and Garlic Powder. Mix well then lay the mixture out on a plate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Place the Beef Tenderloin Filets on the Peppercorn mixture and coat well on all sides, then place them in a large frying pan set over medium high heat with a little bit of Vegetable Oil added<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cook the Steaks for 2 minutes on each side, then rotate and repeat for all 6 sides until cooked rare with an internal temperature of 110F. Remove from heat and set aside to rest<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the Steak has rested, cut thin slices and lay out on a serving plate. Re-heat the Teriyaki Sauce and pour over the top of the Steak. Serve more sauce on the side.
