The dish is packed full of Shrimp, Chicken, and Mushrooms comes served in a brilliantly elaborate device which has a candle in the center of it to keep the soup warm. They use ingredients native to their part of the world which are truly outstanding. The flavors are simply so pronounced, bold, and delicious. This Tom Kha Gai Recipe is no exception. There are a few standout ingredients which make this recipe amazing. We highly recommend you pick them up and keep them in your pantry. Once you\u2019ve used them once you\u2019ll want to add them to all your dishes! (ok maybe don\u2019t add these if you\u2019re baking cookies!)<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fish Sauce<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A unique and extremely pungent recipe made from dried and fermented Anchovies. If that doesn\u2019t sound appetizing then that\u2019s totally ok. The smell of this sauce is even worse! Don\u2019t let that fool you however! Adding Fish Sauce to this soup gives it a beautiful, sweet flavor. Yes, there\u2019s a little bit of funkiness in there, but it\u2019s a good kind of Funk. Fish Sauce is an ingredient that truly defines Thai cuisine<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lemongrass<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once a highly sought after ingredient, Lemongrass is now widely available all over the world. It\u2019s not an ingredient that you eat, instead it is used to flavor dishes such as Soups and Curries. Similarly to how say, a Bay Leaf is used<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The key to unlocking the Lemongrass flavor is to literally bash it to break up its tough, fibrous skin. Doing so releases the beautiful oils and flavors inside the Lemongrass. The flavors are like ginger, but with a little bit of citrus in there. Hence the name Lemongrass!<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Coconut Milk<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Coconut Milk is a common ingredient in global cuisine, and one that is used extensively in dishes from Southeast Asia and South Asia in particular. Coconut Milk adds a beautiful creamy luxury to dishes as well as an immense amount of flavor. Rich, sweet, Coconut flavor is what you\u2019re getting when you bust open a can of Coconut Milk and pour it into your Tom Kha Gai Recipe. The Coconut Milk is what gives this dish its defining color and texture<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The most important ingredient in this Tom Kha Gai Recipe is the Shrimp Stock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As with all Soups, the ingredients that you add to the dish such as vegetables and proteins are key to flavor. However, at the end of the day what will make or break a great Soup is the Broth. The majority of the Soup is made up of Broth, so it is the one ingredient that requires the most amount of attention to ensure you\u2019re getting the most flavor out of this Tom Kha Gai Recipe<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For our Broth we\u2019re using a <a href=\"https:\/\/dinnertimesomewhere.com\/index.php\/dinner\/stock-recipes\/shrimp-stock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">homemade Shrimp Stock<\/a>. We 100% recommend always using your own Homemade broths and stocks when it comes to cooking. The flavor you can infuse into a dish is second to none. By building your own broth from scratch, you\u2019re able to completely control the ingredients, and the intensity of the flavors<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Always save your Shrimp Shells to make a Stock<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Whenever you\u2019re enjoying a homemade Shrimp or Prawn dish such as our <a href=\"https:\/\/dinnertimesomewhere.com\/index.php\/dinner\/seafood-dinner\/shrimp-and-grits-with-chorizo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Shrimp and Grits with Chorizo<\/a> or perhaps <a href=\"https:\/\/dinnertimesomewhere.com\/index.php\/appetizers-and-snacks-recipes\/seafood-appetizers\/peel-and-eat-shrimp-with-garlic-butter\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Peel and Eat Garlic Shrimp<\/a>, get into a habit of saving the Shells and the heads. Peeled Shrimp<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd lb. Chicken Breast, thinly sliced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 Lemongrass Stick<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3 tbsp. Red Curry Paste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd White Onion, coarsely chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd White Onion, sliced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 Garlic Cloves, peeled<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Juice of 4 Limes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 tbsp. Fish Sauce<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 tbsp. Brown Sugar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 Red Chilis, finely chopped (Seeds optional)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>400ml (14 fl. oz.) Coconut Milk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cup Cilantro, chopped<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cup Shiitake Mushrooms, sliced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00bd cup Enoki Mushrooms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Salt<br><br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flatten the Lemongrass to release its flavor by hitting it with the side of a cleaver or knife. Add Lemongrass to a large pot with the coarsely chopped White Onion, Chilis and Garlic Gloves over medium heat. Cook for 2-3 minutes until aromatic, then add the Red Curry Paste and cook for 3-4 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the Shrimp Stock, cover, and simmer for about 30 minutes. The goal here is to infuse the stock with all those lovely aromatics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove from heat and strain the stock. Discard everything but the stock and pour it back into the large pot. Add the Fish Sauce, Brown Sugar, Lime Juice, and Coconut Milk then heat gradually. We don\u2019t want to bring this to a simmer, just warming through to ensure everything is cooked and nicely incorporated. Season well with Salt then taste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Soup really is a bit of a preference for flavor. If you like it more on the acidic side then add more Lime, if you like it a bit tangier then add more Fish Sauce. Sweet, add sugar etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the Mushrooms and Sliced Onions, then after about 2 minutes add the Chicken and Prawns. The Chicken and Prawns won\u2019t take long to cook at all, so add them last; should only take about 2 -3 minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serve with a sprinkling of Cilantro over the top and dive in!<br><br><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>There you have it!
